Auction house Heritage Auctions has set a record price for an auction featuring a famous original table: the 25th page of Secret Wars #8, which includes the first appearance of the Spider-Man black suit, it sold for a record price of $3.36 million.

Secret Wars #8 was released and represented in 1984 one of the very first crossovers of any Marvel Comics title. As the story progresses, Spider-Man’s classic red and blue costume is corrupted and replaced with a black costume.

This is one of the most iconic Spider-Man costumes to come along with Spider-Man for years, and that even today it is often taken up in the stories of the wall climber. Peter Parker will then ditch the costume when he discovers that it is actually an alien symbiote that will give life to his historical villain, Venom.

When the final sale price was smashed and all previous records shattered, the gallery erupted in cheers and cheers.‘ explains Heritage Auctions in a press release. The identity of the seller is not known, but the artist who made the board, Mike Zeck, said he’s no stranger to the sale.

The previous record for the price of an original comic board belonged to a 1974 Hulk page, which featured Wolverine’s first appearance, which sold for $657,250. As for a comic in general, the most expensive ever turns out to be a copy of Amazing Fantasy 15, which includes Spider-Man’s first appearance, sold for $3.6 million.

We remind you that Spider-Man will soon be the protagonist of a relaunch: in fact, in April the newspaper Amazing Spider Man restarts from number 1.
