Here we are again, hackers have hit the Japanese animation world again. It’s like this this time Wakanim, the on-demand streaming service specializing in anime series simulcasts, was attacked. After breaking into the system, hackers stole user data which is now for sale on the darkest part of the internet.
A few months ago, following the Acquisitions by Sony, Funimation and Wakanim have merged with Crunchyroll to create the largest Japanese animation streaming platform. Unfortunately, however, as reported by Twitter @ oecuf0, bad news arrives for the users of the French platform.
From what was revealed, the The Wakanim database would have been the victim of a brutal hack which has led to terrible consequences for users: the sensitive data of 7 million people has been stolen. This is just the latest in a series of hacks that have hit the Japanese anime industry. Not too many weeks ago, the hackers penetrated TOEI Animation’s systems, causing the postponement of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero to halt numerous anime series, including ONE PIECE.
Once again, the losers are the users. It is estimated that i Data from 6.7 million people is said to have been stolen. Valuable information such as username, IP address, email address, place of residence, telephone number, first and last name and account are now for sale. Wakanim has not yet issued any official statements in this regard.
