During the KADOKAWA Light Novel EXPO 2020 event, an anime adaptation of the light novels was produced by Shinji Cobkubo and illustrated by Akagishi K., Sabikui Bisco ((Rust eater Bisco). The project revealed its production details, but no release date.

Shinji Cobkubo and Akagishi K began publishing the light novels through the publishing label Dengeki Bunko from the publisher Kadokawa The publisher published the fifth volume in December 2019, followed by the sixth in June 2020 in Japan.

The piece also inspired a manga adaptation of Yuusuke Takahashipublished through the digital service Manga UP! from the publisher Square enix since April 2019. So far a total of two compilation volumes have been published.

  • Sadayuki Murai ((Boogiepop wa Warawanai, Natsume Yuujinchou, Sidonia no Kishi) is responsible for writing and monitoring the scripts.
  • Ai Asari ((Infinite dendrogram, Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii) is responsible for the character design in collaboration with Atsushi Ikariya.
  • Takeshi ueda ((Baki) Y. Hinako Tsubakiyama You are responsible for composing the soundtrack.

Synopsis by Sabikui Bisco

The story takes place in Japan after a "rust wind" has hit everything. People live in fear of the rust that attacks cities and life in general. A boy named Bisco Akaboshi from the despised "Mushroom Guardian" tribe sets out to get the "rust-eating" fungus, a wonder drug that cleanses all rust in order to save his dying master.

During his trip, Bisco meets Miro Nekoyanagi, an attractive young doctor in Imihama, and together they look for a countermeasure against the rust that is eating up Miro's beloved older sister.
