For several generations, Ash Ketchum has given up all of his Pokémon every time he changes region, only to discover new places and creatures to catch with only Pikachu by his side. Basically, every time the cartoon series is changed Pokémon performs a kind of soft reboot.

The change takes place with the region as well as with the Pokémon and companions. Ash’s age, which has always been set to 10, is an example. But The same goes for the Pokémon anime: Expeditions? In this case, can we also speak of a kind of soft reboot of the series?

As with any Pokémon anime, some characters return on expeditions. Though brief, we reviewed Dawn and also other characters who made their debut with the last series dedicated to the Alola region. Of course, this is not enough to distinguish Pokémon: Explorations from the usual change between a season in the past.

What changes, however, is that how Ash’s new trip was handled. First of all, the protagonist could really boast of the title of Champion of Alola, brought the trophy made visible in the anime, thereby confirming that he is struggling with a direct sequel. Also, this time Ash didn’t travel directly to the new Galar region, but he did spent a large part of his time in the regions already visited like Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and all the others.

Pokémon: Explorations therefore wanted to build on the previous series a lot. It is therefore a much easier soft reboot than in the past. The first 48 episodes of Pokémon: Expeditions can be seen on Netflix.
