ONE PIECE 1044, Luffy attains a new kind of power, can we speak of a divine level?

The climax of the narrative arc of Wano recently took an unexpected turn when the battle between Luffy and Kaido on the roof of the Skull Dome took a new direction. It appeared that Kaido had won against Luffy for the third time as the Emperor was aided by a break-in in ONE PIECE 1042.

But it quickly became apparent that the real fight was just beginning and that Luffy made a huge and surprising re-entry. After announcing that Luffy would unleash a new power within himself, it was revealed in the new chapter that he indeed has awakened the full potential of his devil fruit.

The surprise, however, was the revelation that his devil fruit is much more than it first seemed. In fact, it’s one of the most powerful fruits in the world, and with its awakening, Luffy has finally begun to scratch the surface of a new level of power that he’s never reached before. As a matter of fact, Luffy has become a god to all effects.

ONE PIECE 1044 Luffy looks surprised that he can still get up when his heartbeat starts to pound in an unusual way. This sends shockwaves of his power across the island and it is confirmed that Luffy has reached Gear Five.

Realizing that this is the “maximum” of what he can do, Luffy unleashes enough power to grab Kaido and toss him around with ease, like in a Looney Toons or Tom & Jerry cartoon. The Five Stars of Wisdom explains that the gom-gom fruit is actually known as the zoan fruit, Nika, the sun god mentioned several times in the series.

We are told that there is one “ridiculous” powerand we can see what the 5 stars mean by that word as Luffy now essentially has the power to do as he pleases not only with his body but also with the environment around him.

Not only does he have Kaido twirl overhead in dragon form, he also effortlessly picks up a piece of earth, folds it, and uses it to deflect one of Kaido’s attacks and ricochet it off the Emperor. It looks like it could make everything gummy now, but it’s also such a vague power that fans might not expect how. Eiichiro Oda he will use it.
