The Wano Saga of ONE PIECE reached his heated final moments with Luffy’s battle against Kaido on the roof of the Skull Dome, the final battle to be resolved before the war on Onigashima comes to an end.
Luffy He gave everything he had with that Fourth gear, but it turned out that these efforts were not enough to bring down the emperor. And Kaido gets stronger with each new attempt.
After exhausting all of his current options, Luffy left fans wondering if he would somehow unlock the Gear Fifth form. But in ONE PIECE 1042, he was suddenly attacked from behind by a CP0 member, allowing Kaido to launch his final attack on Luffy, resulting in his defeat.
At the end of this new chapter, however, things are looking very different, as Luffy could unlock a new kind of power. ONE PIECE Chapter 1043 continues immediately after Luffy was hit not only by the CP0 member’s surprise attack, but also by Kaido’s. Unfortunately, this combination of end attacks has left Luffy utterly defeated and seemingly lifeless on the ground.
ONE PIECE 1043 then officially crowned Kaido the victor of their third fight, and things are looking pretty grim for everyone else as even Luffy’s heart seems to have stopped beating. But while the worst situation seems to be coming at Wano in ONE PIECE 1043, Luffy is still not entirely out of the game as something strange happens to his body in the final moments of the chapter.
His heart starts beating again and plays like a drum. Zunisha hears him nearby and is happy that Joy Boy is back, while in the final moments of the chapter, a smile crosses Luffy’s face and a mysterious liquid forms around him. It seems that this Joy Boy is some kind of awakening that has been activated since Luffy’s last defeat. It remains to be seen what kind of power it will be.
