The dark and extraordinary universe in which the series takes place berserk contains many elements that have now become icons and symbols of Kentaro Miura’s masterpiece, from fantastical creatures revisited in other works to intricate power games and mysterious and incredibly powerful artifacts that are often at the heart of fundamental events.
Among the many magical objects present in the world of Berserk, such as the berserker armor or Gatsu’s heavy dragon slayer, it is the Bejelit that have played a fundamental role, and on more than one occasion. From the appearance of eggs of different sizes, these Red Stone Artifacts allow the owners to gain unspeakable powers at the expense of real sacrifices.
Bejelit are activated by forming faces on the surface only when these conditions are met, and based on the ambitions and sacrifices offered, anyone who possesses them could use them to meet the hand of God, those from another dimension comes. The Bejelit therefore represent the connection between the physical plane and the astral planewhere exactly is it possible for the possessor to gain supernatural powers if they were willing to make the sacrifice required by the hand or die.
These objects are mostly considered to be alive because they can take on certain forms of expression even when they are not active. The Bejelits make several appearances throughout the series, such as in the first arc where the With you uses his follower’s power to summon the hand of god and gain greater power to be able to face Gatsu, and here we see the fate of anyone unwilling to make sacrifices, which is to end up in an ethereal vortex and disappear from existence.
The best example and the one that will mark a turning point in history is Grifis’ use of it to ascend to Phemto and become part of the hand of God, sacrificing the lives of his companions. Finally, it is interesting to highlight the unique relationship that the Knight of the Skull has with the Bejelit, since he managed to obtain several by killing dozens of apostles and using them to create a unique sword in the mythology of Berserker .
