In an unspecified year, society changed dramatically with the advent of quirks, forces that changed people’s DNA. Little by little, people have transferred these skills to their offspring and so on the current world of My Hero Academia, where almost everyone has a unique power.
However, there are still many things that are not well known about these powers. Some can be transferred, others have powers that exceed the laws of physics or logic, and still others manage to improve unpredictably over time. The latter have a kind of “awakening” in the quirk that causes a change for the wearer. In particular, they manifested themselves during the recent arc of My Hero Academia 5 “My Villain Academia”.
but What exactly is this quirk awakening? The phenomenon is unpredictable and impossible to train: thanks to a very strong shock caused by stress, physical damage, psychological pressure or much more, a quirk expands by expanding the abilities in its possession. We have only seen three so far Quirks aroused in My Hero Academia.
The first is from Geten, due to the stress the character had to endure when Re-Destro was burned. At first, Geten’s power was to telekinetically control the ice. Upon awakening, however, she was able to control the shape of the ice, its temperature, and thus its ability to create more ice from nearby water sources, which greatly expanded its potential for attack.
The second visa is that of Himiko Toga. The high school bomber manages to suck the blood of one of her victims in order to obtain the DNA and take her likeness. However, the transformation did not allow her to use the reference blood trait, while awakening guaranteed evolution in that sense. During the fight with Curious, she was cornered badly and hence this is what caused this development that she has may use the Uraraka peculiarity.
Finally there is the most important and deadliest thing, that Macke by Tomura Shigaraki, the leader of the League of Villains. His decay mask has awakened after weeks of gigantomachy stress, then that of Re-Destro, combined with an increasingly exhausted body and mind. To use the decay, Shigaraki was initially forced to touch the target with all five fingers to pulverize it. Regardless of the material, Shigaraki could destroy anything, but his quirk only affected one object. With evolution, the villain leader can touch a single object and then propagate decay from there, creating a devastating and almost impossible to stop wave of destruction.
