In addition to the announcement of a collaboration between Kodansha and Liverpool FC, there is news here that will surely interest all fans of Hideo Kojima’s works: The founder of Toonami was interested in funding an anime series Solid metal gear.
Many hope to see a film that is tied to the narrative universe of Metal Gear, also given the great passion for cinema of Hideo Kojima. Jason DeMarco instead announced that he proposed an anime series related to Metal Gear Solid to the writer of the famous video game saga during their meeting a year after the famous chapter was published for Playstation 1. In a Twitter thread, the Toonami founder revealed what Kojima’s reaction was, here is his message: “A year after the release of Metal Gear Solid, I met Hideo Kojima and discussed the idea of ββcreating an anime for the series with him. I told him how important the game and my ideas were for a show. He stopped, glanced at his producer, pointed at me, and just said otaku, then laughed“.
It seems, therefore, that the writer of Metal Gear Solid isn’t very interested in one animated implementation to his most famous work, despite the growing popularity of anime in the West too.
About a year after Metal Gear Solid came out, I met up with Kojima and discussed the idea of ββdoing a Metal Gear anime. I talked about how much I love the games and what the anime might look like. He paused, looked at his producer, pointed to me and said “Otaku”. and laughed.
