On the official website for the anime adaptation of Hazuki Takeoka’s manga and illustrated by Tiv, “Masamune-kun no Revenge” (Masamune-kun’s Revenge), a new promotional image was revealed for the second season of the project, confirming that the premiere is scheduled for July 3 in Japan.
The press release also included a special commercial where you can hear the opening theme song titled “Please, Please!” performed by Ayaka Ohashi. It is worth remembering that the premiere was scheduled for this month but was delayed due to production problems derived from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Takeoka and Tiv began publishing the manga in Monthly Comic Rex magazine by Ichijinsha in October 2012 and finished it in June 2018. The publisher compiled the work into a total of ten volumes. The manga inspired a twelve-episode anime adaptation produced by SILVER LINK studios, directed by Mirai Minato, and scripts written by Michiko Yokote, premiered in January 2017.

Mirai Minato (Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha: Shijou Saikyou no Maou no Shiso, Tensei shite Shison-tachi no Gakkou e Kayou, Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu) returns to direct the project at SILVER LINK studios. Michiko Yokote (ReLIFE, Prison School, Cowboy Bebop) returns to handle the writing and supervision of the scripts. Yuki Sawairi (Kenja no Mago, Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu, Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai!) returns to character design and animation direction. Tatsuya Katou (Mirai Nikki, Shokugeki no Souma, Dr. Stone) returns to the composition of the soundtrack.
Synopsis of Masamune-kun no Revenge
“Masamune-kun no Revenge” tells the story of Masamune Makabe, who, as a child, suffered rejection from a rich and beautiful girl named Aki Adagaki, who nicknamed him “Piggy” due to his chubby appearance. Seeking revenge, Masamune works hard to improve himself and returns as an incredibly handsome, albeit narcissistic, high school student. When he meets Aki once again, he is prepared to demand revenge. With the help of Aki’s maid, Yoshino Koiwai, Masamune slowly begins to build his relationship with Aki, intending to break her heart when the time is right. However, as his friendship with Aki begins to grow, Masamune begins to question the goals of his tortuous plans and whether carrying them out is truly what his heart desires.
