MAP has published a long press release in response to statements from some freelance animatorswho joined forces on July 2nd to denounce the studio’s poor working conditions and low wages to work on Yasuke, the original Netflix anime.

The press release describes the animators’ statements as “misleading” and “mischievous” and closes seems to promise legal action in the event of serious damage to the company’s image. In addition, the studio claims that the animators’ words were misrepresented and related not to Yasuke but to another series still in production.

We recently discovered that some inside information about an unpublished work was misleadingly disclosed on social media“reads the attached press release at the bottom.”This took some facts out of context and caused great discomfort among those involved in the production due to further misunderstandings and speculations. […] The work in question has not yet been published, and it wasn’t commissioned to us by some platforms. We did it and then later sold it. In the past, as in this case, we have never forced anyone to accept unreasonably cheap jobs, but we always paid in proportion to the cost of production, which is based on the profit from the sale of the rights“.

In essence, MAPPA representatives state that they have always been transparent and honest about the payment method and that any statements that would portray the company in a bad light are the result of misinformation. “The working conditions are always accepted before the start of production“, we read in a following paragraph,”and especially with as yet unpublished products, there is always a risk of breach of contract. The company takes the unauthorized disclosure of confidential information very seriously and will take appropriate action legal“.

MAP concludes the press release and defines itself as “a company that always tries to produce the best work possible” is this “continues to work day after day to improve the environment and working conditions“The studio recently made a great venue for Let the Chainsaw Man team work in the best possible conditions, and it looks like it wants to do so in the future too.
