Two years ago, on July 18, 2019, the Kyoto Animation headquarters was razed by Shinji Aoba, a 42-year-old man who died that terrible Thursday at 10:30 a.m. he decided to start a fire in defiance of the company’s top management, kills nearly forty employees. Today the company confirmed that it will hold a memorial to commemorate the victims of the attack.
“Almost two years have passed since that terrible accident“we read on the official website,”and with hearts filled with pain, we kept working and producing souls that tried to get through this moment day in and day out. We wish we could personally remember the victims, with a ceremony, but unfortunately the Covid situation does not allow this. On July 18th, like last year, we are organizing a live memorial on YouTube“.
The commemoration will take place on July 18th at 10:30 a.m., at the same time as the attack took place two years ago and will last about ten minutes. Interested parties can make up for the ceremony at a later date. Kyoto Animation thanked the fans in advance for their interest and support and asked not to send flowers, money or other gifts.
In the past two years, the animation studio has made a big recovery, largely thanks to the extraordinary success of Violet Evergardens film. but obviously the sadness remains, as not everyone who has worked on the series in the past has been able to celebrate these milestones. The company announced that it will be watched during the memorial ceremony on July 18 a minute’s silence in memory of the victims.
