In the latest issue of the magazine Weekly Shōnen Magazine It was announced that the manga was written and illustrated by Miki Yoshikawa, Kakkou no Iinazuke (A couple of cuckoos), will have a popularity poll among the four heroines of the franchise. The winner will inspire a ‘picture book’ dedicated to her, which will soon be published in Japan by Kodansha.
Additionally, the magazine shared four new illustrations of each of the story’s heroines for fans who haven’t read the work to know:
- Erika Amano: A popular Instagram celebrity who is the biological daughter of the family that raised Nagi. She first meets him while filming videos in a park and makes him pretend to be her boyfriend to escape an arranged marriage.
- Hiro Segawa: Nagi’s classmate who ranks first in her class. He lives in a temple and also works as a miko. She later becomes friends with Erika.
- Sachi Umino: She is Nagi’s adopted sister and Erika’s biological sister. She is afraid that Nagi will leave her, and later she runs away from home and moves into the house where Nagi and Erika are.
- Ai Mochizuki: Nagi’s childhood friend who moved to China as a child due to her father’s work and returns to Japan for Nagi. She is also a popular online singer.
Yoshikawa, who is also the author of Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo (Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches), began publishing the manga in the magazine Weekly Shōnen Magazine from the publisher Kodansha in January 2020, after being released as a set of three one-shots and voted for serialization in early 2019. The anime adaptation will have a total of 24 episodes and will premiere in Japan on April 23.
Synopsis for Kakkou no Iinazuke
All of the members of the Umino house are quite similar: they are energetic and incredibly dynamic, with the exception of Nagi, who is a serious and introverted young man who is solely focused on his studies. She’s the complete opposite of someone like her younger sister Sachi, who is a reflection of her outgoing parents. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Nagi was switched at birth with another baby. On the way to her real parents, Nagi meets Erika Amano, a young social media star.
As he spends the day with her, he learns that Erika’s parents forced her to get married. Later that day, Nagi learns that Erika’s fiancé is none other than himself in order to officially become part of each other’s family. To strengthen the couple’s relationship, Nagi’s biological father arranges for the fiancee to live together. But no matter how many pranks her parents play, Nagi refuses to marry Erika. And he already has another person in his sights: the beautiful and intelligent Hiro Segawa.
