Junji Ito is one of the most important Japanese horror writers. It has been in business for decades and has spawned many, often short and self-contained, stories that have been collected in various volumes. While he was still working on Uzumaki, one of his longest and most famous stories, Netflix is ββplanning the anime Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre.
The Junji Ito stories that are adapted in this anime are drawn from the various chapters and final volumes that the author has written over the years. Therefore, for many of them, there will be no common thread between the different episodes. With the first details revealed, here’s a List of other stories that will be carried over into the anime:
- ice cream truck;
- Bohyo no Machi (cemetery);
- Zosho Genei (The Library of Illusion);
- Kubi no Nai Chokoku (Headless Statue).
Four stories to be added to the five already revealed in the past. In addition, a new poster was made available (see below) and they were also revealed the voice actors of these episodes and their characters:
- Ryotaro Okiayu as Sonohara (“Ice Cream Truck”)

- MAO will voice Kaoru Yoshikawa (“Bohyo no Machi”)
- Aya Uchida as Izumi Murakami (“Bohyo no Machi”)
- Yuuki Kaji as Goro Shinozaki (“Zosho Genei”)
- Tomoe Hanba will voice Koko Shinozaki (“Zosho Genei”)
- Fumiko Orikasa as Rumi (“Kubi no Nai Chokoku”)
- Takashi KondΕ will voice Shimada (“Kubi no Nai Chokoku”)
