We’re approaching Halloween and making the most of the spooky party Magic the Gathering announced a collaboration with mangaka Juji Ito for a Secret Lair. The Secret Lair are mini sets of the famous trading card game that contain cards by a specific artist.
Junji Ito, who triumphed at the 2022 Eisner Awards, is one of the greatest horror manga writers of all time. works like Uzumaki and Tomie, protagonists of the nightmares of many readers. Ito’s style is characterized by an insane attention to detail, often serving to create grotesque and inhuman faces and landscapes, as well as truly gruesome scenes.
Magic: The Gathering has decided to partner Junji Ito, as announced in a live stream on YouTube, to make four special maps available from October 17th. The Secret Lair will include special reprints of the black cards Doomsday, Thoughtseize, Carrion Feeder, and Plaguecrafter with a special Artwork by Ito.
Here are the effects of the four cards:
- Doomsday: Search your library and graveyard for five cards and exile all others. Place the cards on top of the library in any order. You lose half your life points, rounded up.
- Thouhtseize: The selected player reveals their hand. Choose a non-land card from among them. The player discards this card. You lose 2 lives.
- Scavenger: Scavenger can’t block. Sacrifice a creature: Put a +1/+1 counter on Scavenger.
- Plaguecrafter: When the Plaguecrafter enters the field, each player sacrifices a creature or planeswalker. Players who cannot do this discard a card.
Another satisfaction, then, for Junji Ito coming after the Junji Ito Maniac series Netflix Collaboration with Magic: The Gathering, the world’s most visited card game, is also taking shape.
