Until a few years ago it was ONE PIECE was unbeatable. Eiichiro Oda’s manga made its debut on the Oricon weekly charts with over 2.5 million copies, only to hit 3.3 after a month. Very high numbers that have made it the best-selling manga on a weekly, monthly and annual level with no competition.

Then came the anime Demon Slayer, which rocketed sales of Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga. The result was a complete dominance of the demon slayers in the leaderboards, Stops the dominance of ONE PIECE after more than a decade. Also this year it seems to be difficult for the Oda manga, which not only sees Demon Slayer in the top positions, but also the newcomer Jujutsu Kaisen, who has also exploded thanks to the anime.

In June, Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 16 and ONE PIECE Volume 99 were released simultaneously, and Oricon released this week’s sales. Jujutsu Kaisen 16 took first place with 1,165,681 copies sold, while the second ONE PIECE sold 1,051,403 copies. Another defeat for the manga from Oda, which now seems to have given way to the new generations. Of course, the pirate world is still one of the most popular in Japan, considering that there are very few mangas that have sold more than a million copies with a single volume.
