The original manga series Jujutsu Kaisen by Gege Akutami may have suffered a sudden hiatus recently, but now Chapter 178 has officially come out, revealing the next phase of the battle Yuta Okkotsu against two opponents in Sendai Colony.

Since Yuta’s return to the series, there have been many questions about the nature of his techniques since his story ended during the Prequel Jujutsu Kaisen 0. But the final chapter filled in some of those big gaps.

When Yuta first returned to the series, it was revealed during his fight with Yuji that somehow he not only had access to his previously copied techniques, but also access to the Curse Rika as support.

There was Rika died at the end of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 prequelHer fans were confused as to why she appeared to be fighting alongside him a year later. But it is explained in the final chapter of the series that this Rika appears to be different than the one Yuta had before, and further emphasizing this is the brand new optics that he employed. Jujutsu Kaisen 178 kicks in immediately after Yuta dons the engagement ring he used to wear to channel Rika’s full power. It is shown to work the same this time as well, as Yuta manages to summon Rika fully to her side, but it is also clarified that this is the case “Rika” and the “Rika Orimoto” who was active during the prequel are different entities. It is clarified that “Rika” had stayed by Yuta’s side after Orimoto’s death and by using the ring she can channel the full power of this spirit as her own cursed technique.

It’s something that Yuta he didn’t have that in the original prequel, and it goes on to show why he was able to fight his way back to Special Rank level for the first time just months after losing Rika. This new version of Rika not only has a new look, but appears to be far more dangerous as this Yuta is far more adept at fighting cursed techniques than he ever was. Now it’s just a matter of seeing what this new Rika can really do.
