On the official site for the anime adaptation of the manga, written and illustrated by Iro Aida, Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun (Toilet bound Hanako-kun), this has been announced the customization project “is restarted”. The site shared a special video to celebrate this announcement, accompanied by a new promotional image, but it didn’t specify what the production means by “reboot.”
Aida started publishing the manga in the magazine Monthly G Fantasy from the publisher Square Enix in June 2014. The work inspired a twelve-episode anime adaptation produced by the studios larkLed by masaomi andou and scripts written by Yasuhiro Nakanishipublished in January 2020.
According to reviews from those in the know of the original franchise, the anime adaptation ended in the middle of Chapter 36. However, it is better to start the manga from the beginning since the anime will skip some chapters/panels and change their order.
Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun Summary
The famous “Seven Wonders” that every school seems to have are an integral part of Japanese urban legends. One of the most famous is that of Hanako-san: a girl’s ghost that haunts the school toilets. Kamome Academy has its own take on the legend of Hanako-san. Rumor has it that if Hanako-san succeeds in summoning them, she will grant her summoner’s every wish. Attracted by gossip, many have tried to call her, but all attempts have failed.
However, when Nene Yashiro, a girl with romantic hopes, dares to summon Hanako-san, she discovers that the supposed “girl” is actually a boy! After a series of unfortunate events surrounding Nene’s romantic desires, Nene is unknowingly drawn into the world of the supernatural and becomes Hanako-kun’s assistant. He soon learns of Hanako-kun’s lesser-known duty: maintaining the delicate balance between mortals and apparitions.
