The official site of the film INU-OH Of Masaaki Yuasa, anime music film inspired by Heike Monogatari: INU-OH no Maki (Tales of the Heike: Inu-Oh) directed by Hideo Furukawa, has revealed a new trailer and visual for the film. INU-OH was announced in 2019 and is planned for 2021.
The trailer reveals the film’s release date 28th of Mayand also includes the first lines of dialogue from the previously announced cast members Tasuku Emoto, Kenjiro Tsuda and Yutaka Matsushige. Emoto, Tsuda, and Matsushige play Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, INU-OH’s father and Tomona’s father, respectively. Avu-chan from the rock group queen bee plays INU-OH and Mirai Moriyama plays Tomona.
The film had its world premiere in 78th Venice International Film Festival in September 2021 and was the first Japanese 2D film to compete in the exhibition’s Horizons category. The film was shown in Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), which took place from October to November last year.
The film won the Special Distinction Prize in the International Competition in the Feature Film category on November 23 Bucheon International Animation Festivall (BIAF). The film will be shown on the 49th AngoulΓͺme festival Friday with a Q&A with director Yuasa. You can watch the first INU-OH trailer here.

Inu-Oh and Tomona become business partners and inseparable friends. use their creative gifts to survive on the fringes of society, while song after song gains notoriety and makes her a star. Through the songs, Inu-Oh mesmerizes her audience on stage and gradually begins to transform into someone of incomparable beauty. but because Tomona is blind? Because Inu-Oh was born with unique qualities? It’s a story about the friendship of Inu-Oh and Tomona, who dance and sing to discover the truth and break each other’s curse.”
Yuasa (DEVILMAN crybaby, Ride Your Wave, Japan Sinks: 2020) directed the film. The mangaka Taiyo Matsumoto drew the original characters of INU-OH in his second collaboration with Yuasa, who previously directed the manga’s anime table tennis by Matsumoto. Akiko Nogi wrote his first anime film after making live-action pieces like I am a Hero, We Married as a Job! and unnatural.
