In 1998, after Yu from the Specters and Level E release sessions, Togashi decided to return to Weekly Shonen Jump Hunter X Hunter, a brand new manga born based on a hobby of hers. Unfortunately, his manga was plagued by constant physical problems, prompting Hunter x Hunter to take 1000 days off.
An impressive number that shows no signs of slowing down. It is not yet known when Hunter x Hunter will return from this very long hiatus, the longest ever made. And speaking of these stops, how many great breaks has hunter x hunter taken in its publishing history?
From the start of release, Hunter x Hunter enjoyed special treatment. Weekly Shonen Jump allowed the author multiple breaks, but usually these were limited to a 2 or 3 week break every 5 or 6 chapters, with a very erratic pacing, but by all means it guaranteed the production of at least 25 or 30 chapters a year. It wasn't until the end of 2005 that these breaks sharpened enormously, until he made his first big breakthrough in early 2006. After chapter 260 there was a very long break that went from # 12-2006 to # 44-2007, so a year and a half.
In mid-2008 there was another 19-week hiatus, followed by a year-long hiatus between 2009-2010, another year-long hiatus between 2010-2011, a major hiatus from 2012-2014 but interspersed with two special chapters dedicated to Kurapika, the very long hiatus between 2014 and 2016 due to back surgery, another 1 year hiatus between 2016 and 2017, a hiatus of over 3 months in 2018 and finally the late 2018 game that continues to this day. In total, Hunter x Hunter then took nine very long breaksfor a period of more than 4 months between one chapter and another.
A troubled story, that of Hunter x Hunter, which hopefully can end as its author wishes.
