Mike Mignola, famous American cartoonist, reported on Twitter about the sale of unauthorized NFTs dedicated to his most famous work, Hellboy. Since this is copyrighted material, but has probably already been inserted into the blockchain, it is not clear how the author or the publisher Dark Horse Comics should deal with the situation.
“For your information only, there are unauthorized Hellboy NFTs made without our or our consent [Dark Horse Comics], so I urge buyers to pay attentionβReads Mignola’s tweet.
NFTs are the latest trend in the crypto world. THAT Non-fungible tokens are digital works of art registered in a blockchain and represent the virtual alternative to collecting works of art. Purchasing an NFT guarantees ownership of a work of art. In this case, because they are unauthorized Hellboy NFTs, it is not clear how this mechanism works from a legal point of view.
Even the publisher Dark Horse Comics, recently acquired by the Embracer Group, wanted to warn its followers on Twitter: “Please be warned: any Hellboy NFTs you find are not authorized by [Mike Mignola] or from Dark Horse Comics“.
The invitation is therefore waiting for the problem to be resolved Pay close attention to the legality of an NFT if you are interested in its purchase.
So that everyone knows. There are HELLBOY NFTs that are not authorized and were made without ours or @DarkHorseComics Approval so buyers beware.
