Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0 It was three times It's one of those rare film projects that has had both the time and the budget to look exactly how the creators wanted it to. That's a rare thing in the anime world, but it's the kind of luxury you can afford when putting the finishing touches on a 26-year-old franchise.

So now to celebrate the anniversary of the film premiere An incredible collection of production art for the film is released by Thrice Upon a Time in Japan. Justified Rebuilding the Evangelion Genga Collection First Volume (Shin Evangelion Gengashu Jokan in Japanese), the 352-page book has its greatest appeal in its collection of Genga, or Key Animation Frame Artworks, illustrations crafted by the finest Japanese animation artists that depict the key moments and poses of an animation sequence.

The book that reproduces the genga in A4 format (29.7 by 21 centimeters), offers a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Thrice Upon a Timeas it also includes layout diagrams, before and after revision graphics, and even a partial timeline for animation production.

The density of the examined art material implies that the book has this Space only for the first part of the film (the Jokan part of the title means "superior" or the first book in a series), but it seems like there's a lot here to keep illustration and anime fans interested until the next book comes out.

THE Pre-orders for Rebuild of Evangelion Genga Collection First Volume are now on Yahoo! Japan for 4,070 yen (US$35), with shipping scheduled for late May.

In the meantime, if you can't do without it, here's a beautiful Evangelion cosplay made by Asuka and some answers Evangelion's father gave about the film.
