When one thinks of Vegeta, the prince of the Saiyans comes into play Dragon Ball Z, emotions can only be mixed given the character's great psychological development throughout the story. But one lesson that shaped him was that of his father, the king.

The role of King Vegeta was never important for narrative purposes, given his submission to Freeza, yet many could not help but wonder what would have happened if the Saiyan Prince had filled his father's position. In fact, the king had persuaded the son to do so be special because of his ruthlessness which inevitably made him look down on all other members of his race.

No wonder Vegeta's treatment of Nappa is cruel and without rancor. This scene in particular, therefore, reiterates that our darling doesn't have any special feelings for the Saiyans since they were annihilated precisely because they weren't like him. The prince therefore feels compelled to atone for his species, as he is the only one who believes he can do so. So the Saiyans would have caused the end of their own planet.
