With his dragon ball, Akira Toriyama gave birth to a new generation of mangaka. Among them is Tetsuya Endo, who recently achieved success with Spy X Family. The author of one of the latest hits from Shonen Jump +, Shueisha’s digital service, pays homage to an old gang of villains.
In anticipation of the anime adaptation of his creature coming to Crunchyroll this April, Tetsuya Endo took part in the Gallery Project initiative by redesigning the cover of Volume 15 of Dragon Ball. But not only that, the Japanese artist wanted to pay tribute to Akira Toriyama’s work with a by artwork.
For the next 40th anniversary of the franchise, Endo illustrated Goku and Krillin on a classic racing car. On his Twitter, he then shared a second sketch with fans, this time dedicated to the antagonists, who are also back in action in Dragon Ball Super.
The author drew according to his style Emperor Pilaf, Shu the ninja dog and Mai. These are back in the Toyotaro sequel series after threatening the world in Dragon Ball. However, in Dragon Ball Super, they are children due to a desire expressed through the exploitation of the Dragon Balls.
The group led by Pilaf, not among those present in this collection of enviable Dragon Ball statues, must have won the sympathy of Tetsuya Endo, who said he was a great admirer of Toriyama.
