Been there a few months Shueisha started the Super Gallery project dedicated to Dragon Ball. To celebrate Akira Toriyama’s masterpiece, the publisher hired a few writers to redesign some of the most iconic and popular covers from the first issue of Dragon Ball.
The project began with Masashi Kishimoto, who redesigned the cover of Dragon Ball Volume 11, and then continued with the assignment to Tite Kubo of the cover of Volume 27 with Goku Super Saiyan and Freeza. Another writer has done it while it was Tatsuki Fujimoto’s turn lately. The author, famous for Fire Punch, Chainsaw Man, and the acclaimed Oneshot Look Back, chose the cover of Volume 2 of Dragon Ballto redesign it like you see below.
In the unedited image, Fujimoto decided to slightly change the angle from one side to the front. From that angle, Bulma is a lot less ready to shoot while Goku still has a nice expression, however highlights the difference to Akira Toriyama’s style. Do you like this version or do you always prefer the first cover designed from the original mangaka?
In the meantime, Fujimoto is preparing for the second part of Chainsaw Man, which will debut next year in conjunction with the anime on Shonen Jump +.
