With the continuation of the Devil’s Reign crossover releases, the fundamental importance of the event in the story of the Guardian Devil is confirmed. In the fourth issue of the series, screenwriter Chip Zdarsky drew heavily on Daredevil’s past to come up with the twist that ended the issue.
While the third edition of Devil’s Reign’s cliffhanger suggested the death of a popular supporting character, the fourth edition takes a step back in the opening and confirms this Foggy Nelson actually survived the beatingalthough he had found serious injuries.
With Mayor Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin banning all superhero activity in New York, Some superheroes have been arrested. As shown in the Devil’s Reign 4 preview, the imprisoned superheroes managed to escape from prison in the process those who escaped arrest try to find a way to stop Kingpin’s plans.
Meanwhile, Wilson Fisk himself, after gaining the psychic powers of the Purple Man, has discovered that he can counteract the hypnosis that has caused him to forget the secret identity of his nemesis Daredevil. So let’s see at the end of the issue Kingpin recovers his stolen memories while uttering Matt Murdock’s name.
While the caption tells how Kingpin is finally reborn, or rather, “born again”, direct quote from Daredevil: Born Againone of the most famous story arcs with the devil from Hell’s Kitchen, written by Frank Miller and illustrated by David Mazzucchelli.
To find out what Kingpin’s next plans will be now that he has them rediscovered the secret identity of Daredevil we’ll have to wait until March 9, 2022, the date when Devil’s Reign #5 by Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto is expected to be released in the US.
