Demon Slayer: Infinity Train is an unprecedented success at 29 billion yen (230 million euros) in just under two months. As the film producer and writer revealed Hotaka SugimotoHowever, only a fraction of the proceeds would be shared with Koyoharu Gotouge, the author of the story.

To the microphones of Business journalSugimoto explained that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is Gotouge’s first work, and for this reason the pay for the film will have been extremely low. Production of the film actually began a few weeks after the premiere of Demon Slayer was broadcast, when the anime was still unknown to most.

The numbers new writers have received for adjustments of this type are downright meager, and Sugimoto guessed it Shueisha could have paid anywhere from two to four million yen (from 16 to 32,000 euros) to obtain the rights. Since the author cannot foresee the success of the work, it is difficult to initiate a negotiation, and of course the amount received does not vary depending on the proceeds from the film.

Koyoharu Gotouge can still comfort himself with the proceeds from selling the manga, another sector where Demon Slayer is breaking all records, though regrets are likely to remain. We remind you that the film has not yet seen the light in the West where it is expected for the generic 2021.
