Today during the day The Aniplex Fest 2021 took place in Japan, the annual event organized by the famous anime, music and video game distributor. During the long live stream of around six hours there was also room for the Demon Slayer panel, with the participation of Natsuki Hanae (Tanjiro Kamado) and Satoshi Hino (Kyojuro Rengoku).
During the event, the two voice actors thanked the fans for the incredible success of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train and watched some clips with comments from western viewers. Some scenes from the film were later dubbed in other languages, and Hanae and Hino discussed the responsibility to play these characters and unexpected success abroad.
After the first part was completed, Aniplex showed a preview a short clip with scenes from the second season. According to Natsuki Hanae, the anime is in the middle of production, so the team couldn’t show a trailer or reveal the release date of the new episodes. Many of the scenes and images shown are from the Anime Japan event last March, and on top of that, the animations are still a bit crude in some ways, so many fans have started with them speculate about the possibility of a postponement.
Lately MAPPA has received a lot of criticism for the poor internal situation, with wages at an all-time low and too high a workload for the animators. The Japanese government is closely monitoring the situation, and given Ufotable’s popularity and the amount of work it takes to produce two Demon Slayer cours, it’s not impossible that the studio decided to postpone the release a bit.
The second season of Demon Slayer will adapt the narrative arc of the red light district, the official name of which will be “Entertainment District Arc”. At the moment the publication is expected for the generic 2021, but in view of the status of the work, a postponement cannot be ruled out. We will receive more information in autumn.
