The platform will make some changes to free streaming with advertising support, starting with Crunchyroll’s spring 2022 anime schedule. Fans have seen the popular streaming platform go through a number of different changes as of late, such as the recent acquisition of Funimation catalogue.

As the new series begins to land and a whole new series wave With the Spring 2022 anime season approaching, Crunchyroll shared an update with its users that revealed changes to the free streaming option with ads for upcoming releases. The service confirmed that it will “stop offering simulcast episodes as an ad-supported free viewing option one week after release.” Previously released episodes are still available, but no new offerings requires a premium membership.
Crunchyroll states that it will still be able to watch its 1,000+ hours of previously available content for free with ads, but this update means fans won’t be able to watch the new season releases without itPremium Subscription. Fans could previously watch this new series if they were willing to wait a week after its initial premiere, but this will no longer be an available choice.
However, a special selection of new series from the Spring 2022 anime schedule will be available free of charge for a limited time. crispy roll will offer a select series of spring 2022 anime streaming ad-free through May 31. For these select series, the first three episodes will be available for free with commercials (one week after their first premiere, as before), but after their expiration date, fans will need a subscription to watch them. The selected animes are:
- Spy x family
- A couple of cuckoos
- Dawn of the Witch
- Tomodachi game
- Skeleton Knights in Another World Shikimori isn’t just a cutie
- The greatest demon lord is reborn as a typical nobody
- Trapped in a dating sim: the world of otome games is tough on mobs
As if that wasn’t enough, Food Wars, Danmachi, and other titles will be leaving Crunchyroll at the end of March. What do you think?
