Souls have now become a worldwide phenomenon. The popularity explosion that has lasted for a few years, thanks in particular to streaming services like Crunchyroll, which bring out new series every season, has made Japanese animation much better known around the world.

Souls are therefore entertainment products on par with American films and television series that have long dominated television programming. But how interested are young people really in anime? Answer to the question is Alden Mitchell Budill, Head of Department of Crispy roll dealing with content strategies and partnerships worldwide.

Based on research and opinion polling company Acceleration Japan (A-JAPAN), it launched a survey to find out how many people know about anime. The result was that Only 6% of Generation Z children don’t know about anime, versus 27% of the total population.

With this result, Budill argues that there is still plenty of room for animation devoted exclusively to adults and that it could be produced without genre and content boundaries. In this way, Crunchyroll will also figure out which titles it should license and which IP is independently produced.

Don’t miss the simulcasts announced by Crunchyroll for July 2021.
