Although he is the first historical partner of Batman in his fight against crime, even Dick Grayson doesn’t know all about Bat Man. For example, people have always wondered why Bruce Wayne gave Robin a completely different costume than his. Catwoman gave us the answer to this question.
In the seventh book of Batman / Catwoman, Selina finally admits to her daughter that she has it killed the joker. Tied to the ethics her father Bruce taught her, Helena Wayne hands over the evidence of the murder to the new Gotham City Commissioner, Dick Grayson.
When the first Robin leaves for the Wayne mansion to proceed with the arrest, Catwoman surrenders of her own free will, which leads to a certain argument. Selina asks Dick why Batman gave him one colorful costumein contrast to the “dark” one he was wearing. The new superintendent then responds that if he had been wearing a dark costume at the time, he would not have been able to improve his stealth skills.
However, this is only half the story. As Catwoman herself revealed, the reason for Bruce’s choice was much darker and more tragic. Selina gets into the police car and reports that Batman revealed to her that Robin’s costume was designed with the intention of make the joker laugh. In fact, the Bat-Man thought that if the Joker had only seen Robin as a “fool” he would never have killed him.
So Robin’s costume was designed for protection from the joker. This shows how dangerous Batman’s archenemy could be and how much the Dark Knight himself feared his madness. However, this plan has not always worked; Jason Todd, Dick’s successor in the role of second Robin, knows it well.
