In a recent interview published by bilibilithe manager of Riot games, Nicholas Laurentconfirmed that The second season of the Arcane animated series will not premiere this year, as many claimed. However, he also revealed that he has already seen the third installment of this sequel and that production is moving forward at a brisk pace.
Arcane is one of the many animated video game adaptations that achieved incredible success thanks to a high level of production. Arcane Season 1 took the cake and almost every international award it was nominated for, catching the attention of even people who had never played a game in their lives. League of Legendsthe video game that inspired the story.
When the first season ended, the second was announced shortly after, which left fans quite satisfied. However, this sequel was not in the plans of the production team, who did not expect the adaptation to be hugely successful. This was commented on by Nicolo Laurent during the brief segment of the interview:
- «I just watched episode 3 of season 2 before my flight so we're making progress. It's not finished yet and there are two reasons for that. First, we want quality. We just don't want to rush anything. We honestly didn't know if the first season would be a success. […] If we had known that, we could have started Season 2 much sooner. But we didn't know, so we waited a bit. Now we pay the price. Therefore, unfortunately, it will not appear this year.».
The story takes place in the cities of Piltover and Zaun. Although Arcane only focuses on these two cities, they belong to the world of Runeterra. Piltover is the academic and scientific and prosperous city, while Zaun is the opposite, with suburbs filled with crime, poverty and toxic chemicals where there is no authority whatsoever. The tensions and rivalries that exist between these two towns divide families and friends, as in the case of Vi and Powder, two of Zaun's sisters; or Jayce and Viktor, two inventor friends and apprentices of legendary scientist Heimerdinger. All of these relationships will overflow with the creation of hextech in Piltover, a technology that allows anyone to control magical energy, while in Zaun a new drug will turn people into monsters.
