Thanks to multiple implementations of successful series, the anime industry has grown in recent years and stalled due to the pandemic that slowed and even stopped several productions. However, there are two other major issues: the entertainers’ wages and working conditions, and one of the main culprits would be Netflix.
If franchise has now become famous and followed by millions of fans who continue to support the immense economic structure of the medium, Niche series and smaller productions are much more affected by the slowdowns due to COVID-19. In the past few months there have been cases of pathetic conditions and limitations for animators at fairly well-known animation studios, and only recently some personalities in the industry have stood up against the big names who manage everything without having the right respect for their employees.
To Allegations against Science SARU for making Star Wars Visions, the Disney giant by Joan Chung and the Yusuke case, produced by Netflix and studio MAPPA, has an American animator strong criticized the politics of the big N. According to the post you can find at the bottom of the page, @x_Zombiefish_x would have accused these giants of the sector for not paying the Japanese animators adequately.
The user’s harsh words would be a solution to reduce the growing number of layoffs which deeply affects Japanese animation. After all, paying Japanese animators less than their American counterparts is a matter of respect it is tantamount to giving less value to the work of those who produced the medium. As a salesman at Abercrombie in Ginza, I made as much money as an animator is paid there. This is fucking crazy. You could have a retail job in Japan for better wages. How the fuck
