The author Takeshi Hinata, author of the manga Ahiru no Sora, recently published a negative review of the artistic freedoms that are being taken in the anime adaptation. The author quoted a tweet posted by the adaptation’s official account, adding the comment: “You are the worst”(The account later deleted the aforementioned tweet). The author, however, took a snapshot of the now deleted post and added: “If they are going to avoid the topic then they would have never done anything

The image in the post shows the characters’ eyes shining, something users noticed as a direct reference to the series. Kuroko no basket, and the central theme of Hinata’s criticism. In another post, Hinata explained a little more about how it felt to read the comments on the adaptation. “I’ve been receiving a series of direct messages, which made me think, “Well, it’s Diomedea, it can’t be helped.” A part of me wants to say that, but I can’t do it when I remember that they are adapting my own manga. If the adaptation has caused fans to disagree, then I apologize. I also want to apologize to people who are true Ahiru no Sora fans. I think the direction of this adaptation is disappointing and terrible, and I apologize for that again.

Hinata had already posted reviews on this adaptation. In the author’s comments of the thirty-ninth compilation volume of the manga, he wrote that they have approached him twice asking him to organize the adaptation of his own work, however, the author has declined these offers because they both end with the protagonist playing in the NBA.

For its part, the anime premiered in Japan on October 2 and will last four arcs, that is, 50 episodes. Hinata began publishing the manga in the magazine Weekly Shonen Magazine from the publisher Kodansha in December 2003 and is still in publication. The publisher published the fifty-first (51st) compilation volume in June 2019.
