Kodansha has revealed new details on the anime adaptation of A Couple of Cuckoos, the popular romantic comedy directed by Miki Yoshikawa that is slowly taking over Japanese audiences. The anime, currently in production, will debut in 2022 and it just popped up in the first official teaser trailer.
A Couple of Cuckoos is a manga that was published in Weekly Shonen Magazine as of January 2020 and is currently in the works with 8 published volumes over a million copies in circulation. Kodansha describes the synopsis as follows: “Sixteen-year-old student Nagi Umino, a sophomore at Meguro River Academy, was exchanged at birth. One day, on her way to dinner to meet her birth parents, she happens to meet Erika Amano, an open and naughty girl who is determined to make Nagi her false boyfriend so that she does not have to get married. However, when he arrives at dinner, the boy finds that his parents have decided to solve the swap cradle problem for simple reasons, or instead marry the daughter they raised, who turns out to be the same Erika!“.
Hiroaki Akagi (Takagi-san, Those Snow White Notes) e Yoshiyuki Shirahata (Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle, Great Pretender) direct the anime for Shinei Animation and Synergy SP. Yasuhiro Nakanishi (Kaguya-sama: Love is War, Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun) wrote the script while Aya Takano (Takagi-san, Polar Bear’s Café) drew the characters based on the drawings by Miki Yoshikawa. The first trailer visible below shows the protagonist Nagi and the student Hiro, with whom he is in love.
