Isekai is one of the most contrasting genres in the landscape today. The subgenre got a name around 2010, as such titles between the Sword art online, Konosuba, The Rising of the Shield Hero and many others. The light novels have cleared customs for this type of anime and manga, which can now be found everywhere and in every sauce.
When we say Isekai everyone thinks of the seasons of Sword Art Online, while some of the most recent and popular is the anime of The Rising of the Shield Hero, but there have been titles of this type in the past but not branded as isekai and which are indeed in every heart. We see five Isekai souls that you (maybe) didn’t know were Isekai.
Let’s start with Monster rancher, an anime that has accompanied many small and not-so-small viewers. Also broadcast on Rai 2 in the 2000s, the protagonist Genki is conjured up in a parallel world in which some mythical creatures live. The boy will lead Mocchi and the other monsters in search of the phoenix to defeat Moo. The protagonist Genki is projected into a completely different world and is therefore an Isekai.
We are in the same genre Digimon adventure, the first historical series by DigiChosen, children who were picked up by a digital portal and brought to DigiWorld. The parallel world of digital monsters for digivolving therefore coincides with the properties that an Isekai has. Studio Ghibli is also not exempt as it created The enchanted city, a film in which Chihiro is transported to the spirit world after entering a tunnel with her parents.
The fourth title on the list is The sky from Escaflowne, with Hitomi Kanzaki, a girl who can read tarot cards who is teleported to a parallel universe where the moon and earth are in the sky. Between new technologies, wars and more, Hitomi must save the planet Gaia. Finally is the fifth isekai title Magical Knight Rayearth, one of the most famous CLAMP titles. The three protagonists Hikaru, Fu and Umi are kidnapped during a journey into a world in which they become magical knights.
Did you expect these titles? A major difference to today’s Isekai is certainly the lack of Track-Kun, but you can also teleport to other worlds using other methods.
