A photo circulated on the Chinese social network Baidu confirmed the details of the next anime project based on the multimedia franchise RWBY. This project is titled RWBY: Ice Kingdom and has its premiere scheduled for this year in Japan. The promotional poster also reveals the production team, which includes:
- Toshima’s Suzuki (Bakemonogatari, Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica Gaiden, Heroic Age) is responsible for directing the anime at the studios WAVE.
- Tow off Ubukata (Psycho Pass 2, Age of Heroes, Le Chevalier D’Eon) is responsible for writing and supervising the screenplays.
- General Urobuchi (Psycho Pass, Fate/Zero, Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica) animation planning credited.
- hookah (Steins;Gate, Black★Rock Shooter) is responsible for character design.
RWBY is an animated series produced by Studios Rooster Teeth Animation in the US with a Japanese-style animation cut. After several promotional videos, the first episode of the series premiered in July 2013. Subsequent episodes were released semi-weekly via YouTube, and the series achieved such fame that a second season premiered in July 2014.
The death of Monty Um, the original creator, caused a series of delays and changes in the production team during production of the third season in 2015. Since then, fans have agreed that a number of creative decisions were made that caused the franchise to go under.
Summary for RWBY
The story takes place in the world of Remnant, which is filled with mysterious and malevolent creatures known as the “Creatures of Grimm”. Prior to the events of the series, humanity fought against the Grimm for survival before discovering the power of a mysterious element called “Dust” that allowed them to dominate in battle. Today, dust is used to empower weapons and abilities, while a more archaic use is for clothing. The series then focuses on four girls, each with their respective powers and weapons. Together they form the “RWBY” team at Beacon Academy, where they train to become hunters who will take on the Grimms.
