On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the anime Puella Magi Madoka MagicaStudio Shaft didn’t announce the anime’s much-anticipated second season, but instead announced a sequel to the 2013 film Pella Magi Madoka Magica Part 3: The Story of the Rebellion. The fourth feature’s slogan is “It’s time to continue the story”.
At the top of the news you can watch the announcement trailer, while at the bottom you can see the key visual depicting protagonist Madoka Kaname. The new film will see the return of all those involved in the production of the original anime, from casting the voice actors to the director, to screenwriters, character designers, composers and so on. Studio Shaft has not currently set a possible exit window.
For those unfamiliar with the work, Puella Magi Madoka Magica is an original 2011 anime by Magica Quartet (Quartet consisting of Akiyuki Shinbo, Gen Urobuchi, Ume Aoki and Atsuhiro Iwakami) and produced by Studio Shaft. The first season, consisting of only 12 episodes, was a great success worldwide and three films were subsequently made, The beginning of the story, the never ending Story is The story of the rebellionThe first two serve as an adaptation of the TV series and the third as a sequel. This new film, the fourth overall, is titled Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten and will tell the rest of the story.
In September 2020, Studio Shaft announced that it wanted to do a second season, but apparently The project was temporarily suspended in favor of the film. Definitely an interesting project where fans at least have the opportunity to find out how the story continues.
