Monster Musume no Oishasan – Chapter 8: Attack of the Giants
As the “giant god” approaches the Alda, the harpies decide to evacuate it. Support from Tisalia and the company to facilitate the effort. However, Tisalia remains in search of the goddess to give them more time to evacuate. Something that Sapphee and Glenn imagine who accompany them. But with Glenn’s plan to convince the “giant god” not to go to the village, and if the plan should fail, it would be Tisalia and Sapphee’s turn.
It turned out that Diane Nephilim was “the giant god” who only went to the village after hearing that a doctor would stay there. Well, he wants me to check it out. The result of Glenn’s criticism is that he only has a cold and gives him the medicine he would use for any other monster, only in a much larger amount. The harpies’ interest in Diane leads them to get to know her better and provide various materials for Arahnia to make her warmer clothes.
Glenn and Sapphee, who no longer have to do business in the village, return to Lindworm to reopen the clinic. Then Illy brings them a letter of invitation to celebrate the city’s anniversary. During the ceremony, Kunai, the voice of Skadi, speaks about the founding of the city, but is interrupted by the state of Skadi.
Is a friendship born?
Although both appeared from the start, their relationship wasn’t very good. Although I don’t think it’s bad either. In Monster Musume no Oishasan – Chapter 8 I could see a friendship develop between the two heroines closest to Glenn, Sapphee, and Tisalia.
From the start, their relationship was one of the rivals, nothing more, nothing less. But as the anime evolved and the characters evolved, each of them gradually had their moments with Glenn. Keeping some leeway, especially Tisalia. What I imagine was that she still doubts what love is like because she’s never been in love. The ending is a friendly rivalry between them.
It made me realize once again the kind personality Tisalia displayed in almost every episode she’s been in. For example in Monster Musume no Oishasan – Chapter 8 showed his personality a bit as he thought about harpies on his own life. Preparing for an enemy he certainly couldn’t defeat. However, in addition to “kindness,” his self-sacrifice was not very well thought out on his part. Maybe it was because he was afraid of the situation, but I think there was something wrong with his belief at the time.
Self-sacrifice is something that creates a little bit of conflict for me personally. Well, although there are times when that decision seems heroic to me in a character, I don’t like it that the character feels like the conditions are set in case they survive. These conditions that easily and in most cases fly the flag of death in the character, like the typical “If I survive, I will confess”. Which is the perfect example this time Monster Musume no Oishasan – Chapter 8.
Therefore, self-sacrifice creates conflict for me. Well, I think very few characters look really good at this, whether they survive or not. All for the security that the character shows in the face of the adversities he is facing. I don’t mean that the character is brave and fearless. In fact, this hint of fear in the character I am feeling gives more depth to the event.
I don’t know if I got it right, but I feel that the character must have that “something” for self-sacrifice. With an expression that reflects warmth despite tears. That the silhouette of your back, even if it trembles, means security. May your voice, even if it is struck by fear, be heard by kindness.
With that in mind, I reiterate my belief that Tisalia does not have that “something” for self-sacrifice. Maybe he does, but personally he didn’t show them to me as a var who made his decision heorical. Rather, he made a hasty decision and believed that this was the right and / or only possible decision. Without thinking rationally before acting. Of course, like Sapphee, I respect that Tisalia made a decision that shouldn’t be easy.
Also with the speed of the harpies in flight and the help of the chariot, taking into account the time it took “the giant god” to reach the village. I don’t think he could reach her when he was evacuated. If “the giant god” was going to attack the village, why should he drive so slowly? Give them time to escape …
Gigantic concern
The birth of the giant race was very interesting in history. Since then, the harpies have referred to this race as if they were gods. What got me introduced is not a very common breed, either because of their size or because they are small. Also, they were long-lived because they were connected as deities. Even if it’s just about the harpy beliefs, they’re the first to mention this breed. At least I don’t remember talking about giants previous episodes.
While in Monster Musume no Oishasan – Chapter 8 The race of giants had its appearance, the doubts I have about the race remain. While I can give myself a general idea of some doubts, such as that the race is durable, it seems that it does. A common cold lasts 10 years.
In order to be a unique opportunity to showcase this breed, I feel like they talked very little about it. So many options in Monster Musume no Oishasan – Chapter 8 where they could learn more about their anatomy.
Curious details in Monster Musume no Oishasan – Chapter 8
One of the most shocking things about this episode was, without a doubt, that Skadi was speaking for the first time. When they get a visit from Illy to warn them about the giant. I was really surprised to hear Skadi’s voice. Not because the voice was a little “childish”, but because for some reason I think it fits perfectly. Despite its mysterious side that barely revealed anything of his personality. I have a feeling that this voice is the only one Skadi can have.
Also in Monster Musume no Oishasan – Chapter 8 showed a little more of Skadi’s body. Its tail, its wings, everything that is normally covered by its clothing. Of course, his face remains unknown. But from the start I couldn’t picture her with big, bright eyes.
The seiyuu that gives Skadi is a voice Atsumi Tanezakiwho had roles like: Miu Amano ((Mixture S.), Nagi Kodachi ((Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai), Maina ooizumi ((Idol ☆ sister), Satowa houzuki ((Kono Oto Tomare!), Chise Hatori ((Mahoutsukai no Yome), Rio Futaba ((Seishun Buta Yarou wa bunny girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai), among many others.
To be honest, I was very surprised to find out Atsumi Tanezaki gave Skadi a voice because I didn’t hear the same tone with this character as I did with Rio Futaba. Something that showed me its versatility. Also for the curious, Idol ☆ sister is a OVA hentai. Just to have that seiyuu Skadi has taken a high position on my personal list of favorite female characters in Monster Musume no Oishasan.
Back to the topic of the strange details in Monster Musume no Oishasan – Chapter 8. One thing I couldn’t help but notice was the lack of “groans” (or similar noises) in this chapter. Since Dr. Glenn’s Heartbreaker would normally cause a character to make these types of noises, he’s mostly one of his patients. But it didn’t happen this time. Though Glenn took the opportunity to compare the softness of a giant with that of a human. A softness that almost suffocates him.
I think with the end of Monster Musume no Oishasan – Chapter 8 makes it obvious that Skadi will be making these noises next. Of course there is always another option, for example, Cthulhy is seen repeatedly on the advance.
By the way, I think Lulala doesn’t look good in this color of clothes. It’s not that I’m a fashion expert, it’s just my personal thought. I think a lighter shade would go better than this “green”.
