Author’s Response and Social Media Buzz
- Rifujin na Magonote, the acclaimed author of the novel Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, has once again become a trending topic on social media. He responded to the criticisms about his work through statements on Twitter. These posts coincided with the announcement of the third volume of Mushoku Tensei: Redundancy, a sequel that explores the fate of secondary characters after the main arc.
- In his messages, Magonote made his unwavering stance clear:
“I am happy with the praises, I am saddened by the criticisms, and it hurts when I am insulted or slandered. But, no matter what they say, I will keep writing what I want. That will not change.”
- He also emphasized that, although he aims to expand his audience, his creative vision will always be his top priority:
“If no one read it, it would make no sense to publish it, so I try to reach more people. But that comes after ‘writing what I love, the way I love it’. Don’t confuse the order: first is my passion, then the readers. You all come after, I’m sorry.”
The Controversy of Redundancy
- The debate centers around Redundancy, a story originally published as a web novel in 2015. One of its most controversial arcs involves Ars and Aisha Greyrat — Rudeus’ son and half-sister, respectively — whose incestuous relationship led to the deletion of several chapters at the time. The plot is described as follows:
- Aisha develops ambiguous feelings towards Ars as he grows up. After a mutual confession, the two start a clandestine relationship.
- When they are discovered by Rudeus and Sylphiette, Eris hits Ars in a fit of rage. The family reacts with indignation, except for Lilia, who attempts to kill Aisha.
- After fleeing and being found a year later — with Aisha pregnant — the couple is reintegrated into the family under strict conditions: Aisha loses her surname and has to study at the Royal Academy of Asura, while her son, Leroy, stays with the Greyrat family.
- Magonote admitted that certain passages of this plot did not satisfy him and that their deletion was due to the policies of the original platform. However, with the upcoming release of Redundancy Vol. 3, published by MF Books, a doubt arises: Will the printed version canonize this relationship or will he opt for a more “safe” narrative?
The Direction of the Story
The author has not clarified whether the revised volume will include the deleted chapters. Fans are speculating if the publisher will pressure to soften the content, although Magonote has reiterated that his style will not yield to external pressures. For now, the conclusion of Aisha and Ars — married and living in peace with Leroy — remains a divisive point within the community.
Meanwhile, Mushoku Tensei maintains its legacy as a pioneer of modern isekai, reminding us that, for better or for worse, its author prefers authenticity over consensus.
