2021 ended with three new manga on Weekly Shonen Jump. While these three new works attempt to consolidate in the magazine’s unstable line-up, other manga instead risk delisting to make way for other titles the editors wish to focus on. And that moment has now come quarterly.
The year 2022 of the new series on Weekly Shonen Jump begins. February will indeed see the debut of two new manga, the first information of which has been leaked from the house magazine Shueisha leaks. You will debut Akanebanashi by Takamasa Moue and Yuki Suenaga on #11 (which will be available on MangaPlus on February 13, 2022) and child of the earth by Hideo Shinkai on #12 (scheduled for February 20, 2022).
Akanebanashi will likely be the sequel to a recently self-contained chapter also featured in Weekly Shonen Jump by the two authors. If the situation is confirmed, the manga will would focus on rakugo, or the Japanese comic monologues. Takamasa Moue, the artist, has his second job at Weekly Shonen Jump, following Ole Golazo’s bankruptcy, which was canceled in 2017 with just 12 chapters.
Child of the Earth instead marks the return of Hideo Shinkai, author who had marked a serialization that was not long and very successful, but still of a decent level. His name is actually linked to Soul Catchers, a manga that debuted on Weekly Shonen Jump in 2013 and continued there until chapter 56 when it was moved to the reborn Jump Live magazine, where serialization continued briefly.
To make room for them Magu-chan: God of Destruction, which ended with 77 chapters, while it is currently unknown if there will also be a second cancellation, although the evidence suggests that Dr. Stone is now in the final stages.
