Today is the Japanese author Reki Kawahara announced a new manga based on the Sword Art Online novel series, drawn by Kimi and will be released on October 27, 2021. The new series focuses solely on the Aincrad narrative arc, and the chapters are published monthly on. released Monthly comic Dengeki Daioh from Kadokawa.
As the publisher reports, the new manga will “reorganize” the Aincrad saga so we can expect a kind of complete retelling of the first sheet, from imprisonment in the virtual world of SAO to confrontation with Akihiko Kayaba. Although very similar to the premise of Sword Art Online: Progressive, Kawahara stated that it was a different product, based on the original volumes of the series of light novels decorated with some additional scenes.
Sword Art Online is one of the most successful Shonen series of the last decade. Writer Reki Kawahara started working on the light novel in 2009 and received a manga adaptation in 2010 and an anime in 2012. At the moment 25 volumes of the main series have been published, with its 26th release on October 8, 2021, plus three spin-off series including Sword Art Online: Progressive. The anime, on the other hand, consists of 4 seasons plus two original films, one of which will hit theaters on October 30th.
