Kohei Horikoshi is a huge fan of American comics, and it is no coincidence that My Hero Academia is full of tributes to Batman, Spider-Man, and other great heroes from the Marvel and DC series. However, the greatest quote seen so far is it could be the final arc of the mangawhich, as many of you may have noticed, bears more than one resemblance to the plot of Batman: Knightfall.
In the latest saga of My Hero Academia, Izuku Midoriya has to face several mercenaries hired by All for One after fleeing Tartarus. including some familiar faces like Muscular and Stain. The protagonist slowly collapses under the burden of responsibility and stress, and in the last chapter we saw a real rescue at the last second.
The premise and development of the story seems quite original, but in reality in DC Comics did something similar back in 1993, with the famous Batman: Knightfall. In the story of Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench and Alan Grant, Batman faces a mass exodus that took place at Arkham Asylum Detention Center and fights Joker, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow and many other iconic villains in a long story arc. with the aim of finding Bane. Batman and Deku behave the same, and are viewed by the citizens as lonely, watchful heroes who watch over the city at night and risk their lives to save the innocent.
In Batman: Knightfall Batman has reached the end of his tether, both physically and mentally, and eventually falls into a trap by Bane, who defeats him in an iconic scene by breaking his back. The situation ends differently in My Hero Academia, but moments after completing chapter 318 it was pretty easy to think of a similar ending.
What do you think of that? Did you notice the resemblance? Tell us in the comments! In the meantime, we remind you that My Hero Academia is currently on hiatus and Chapter 319 will be released on MangaPlus on Sunday July 11th.
