The Japanese comics industry is constantly evolving, and if there's one category that's always praised in today's expansive catalog, it's that of shave, which feature stories aimed primarily at an audience of boys. Compiling a ranking of the best shonen can be complicated, which is why an ad hoc poll has been launched.
It was created by the website Ranking.net, which asked its Japanese users to choose among 119 suggested series best shonen manga ever. Below are the top 10 works chosen by passionate readers:
- ONE PIECE
- dragon ball
- Naruto
- Hunter X Hunter
- Haikyuu
- attack on Titan
- slam dunk
- death notice
- Assassination Classroom
- Gintama
Unsurprisingly, Luffy and the Mugiwara's tremendous journey took first place in ONE PIECE. The work of Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball, one of the most influential of the past 40 years, was instead awarded the silver medal, followed by a famous heiress as the battle shonen: Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto. Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama, one of the most read, discussed, and acclaimed series of the past decade, took sixth place, among two incredible Spokons, Haikyuu, the newest manga to rank, and Slam Dunk by Maestro Inoue. If the first four fall within the purest definition of battle shonen, the other six make the ranking quite heterogeneous and interesting for anyone wanting to approach this category of medium.
And what do you think is the best shonen of all time? We are waiting for your answers in the comments.
