In the Marvel Universe, some of the most powerful beings in the world are not the result of brilliant experiments or incredible coincidences, but rather they obtained their powers simply through the inheritance of a gene: they are the mutants. Although the most famous mutants are certainly the X-Men, the strongest mutant of all may be alien to the group.
In classifying mutants, Marvel Comics comes to our aid thanks to the introduction of the concept of the Omega level. This is the definition of the strongest mutants on earth, whose power is potentially infinite. They are omega level mutants such as Magneto, Jean Gray and Storm.
The title of Strongest Mutant, however, is it is due to an unexpected character: Franklin Richards, son of Reed Richards and Susan Storm, or Mister Fantastic and the Invisible Woman of the Fantastic Four. The strongest omega mutant of all, so it is almost completely alien to the world of the X-Men.
Franklin Richards, although he was still a child, can boast extraordinary ability to manipulate reality, as well as telepathy, telekinesis and energy projection. In the adult version (appeared several times in alternate universes) Franklin is practically a deity, able to subdue cosmic beings like Galactus and likely compete with the highest authorities in the Marvel Universe: the Living Tribunal, Death and Eternity.
To get an idea of ββthe powers of Franklin Richards, just think that technically is the creator of the current Marvel multiverse. In fact, the multiverse will be destroyed at the end of the 2015 Maxi-Event Secret Wars. Fortunately, Franklin is discovered from his remains able to create whole new universes, Restoring a similar (but not identical) multiverse to the previous one.
However, if we take into account recent comic book events, the title of the strongest mutant cannot go to the young mutant: Indeed, Franklin recently lost his powers after overuse and also lost his mutant status.
While he waits for Franklin Richards to regain his powers, the debate over the identity of the strongest mutant remains open. Our vote goes to Jean Gray: If Marvel Girl is already an Omega level mutant herself, there will be no more mutants who can level up once she has acquired the powers of the Phoenix Force.
Jean Gray will soon be one of the protagonists of Destiny of X, the relaunch of the titles dedicated to the X-Men. Franklin Richards is instead one of the supporting characters in the Fantastic Four franchise published monthly by Marvel Comics. Both supergroups will soon debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – that’s how much Fantastic 4 and X Men have changed the MCU’s plans, according to Kevin Feige.
