Certainly the market for manga magazines in Japan has been declining for years, there is no doubt about that. Quarterly reports from Oricon and other companies always certify the drops in Weekly Shonen Jump, Shonen Magazine, Shonen Sunday and all other Japanese scene magazines. Shueisha herself confirms the decline.
However, this does not mean Weekly Shonen Jump continues to sell well. Still more than a million copies a week, an enormous number considering that the closest competition sells a little over half, not to mention the smaller magazines that even reach less than a tenth of those numbers. Well, a lot of Jump’s sales are driven by the digital edition.
Shueisha betrayed that Weekly Shonen Jump sells up to 700,000 copies each week in digital edition. The digital edition of the magazine alone is selling far more than any other manga magazine currently published in Japan. As a thank you to the audience, Shueisha announced a five-part giveaway project.
The event will be announced by the new big 4 from Weekly Shonen Jump. As you can see in the photo below, there is the inevitable ONE PIECE with My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen by its side, the other two pillars of the magazine. Surprisingly probably also for the return of Togashi, there is also Hunter x Hunter.
