The platform Netflix listed that the film adaptation of the light novels by Kana akatsuki and Akiko-takase, Purple Evergarden, titled as Violet Evergarden: The Movie, will appear in its global catalog on October 13th. This is the same release date for the Blu-ray / DVD package in Japan that was previously delayed from its originally planned release in August.

Purple Evergarden

The film opened in Japanese cinemas on September 18, 2020 and took second place in weekly box office results on the opening weekend. This is the first animated film (aside from compilations) to appear in. is published Dolby cinemas, with its opening to the public on November 13th in Japan.

Kyoto animation delayed the release of this feature film due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on production. The film was scheduled to hit Japanese theaters on April 24, 2020, although, as originally announced for January 10, 2020, this was the second postponement.

  • Taichi Ishidate (Kyoukai no Kanata, Musaigen no Phantom World, Violet Evergarden (TV)) was responsible for directing the feature film in the studios Kyoto animation, In collaboration with Haruka Fujita.
  • Reiko Yoshida (Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm, Girls und Panzer, High School Fleet) was responsible for the script.
  • Akiko-takase was responsible for the character design.
  • Evan call (Josee to Tora to Sakana-tachi, Kono Yo no Hate de Koi wo Utau Shoujo YU-NO, Senki Zesshou Symphogear GX) was responsible for composing the soundtrack.

Violet Evergarden: The Movie Summary
