Synopsis from Tsuki to Layka to Nosferatu
The story takes place in a fictional world, ten years after a long war that divided the world into two superpowers: the Union of Zirnitra Republics in the east and the United Kingdom of Arnak in the west. The two superpowers are now testing their ambitions in a race against each other to see who can send the humans into space first. In 1960, the Prime Minister of the Union of Republics, Gergiev, announced the “Mechtat Project”, a prestigious plan to launch manned missions to the very last frontier. To that end, the Union of Republics is building the isolated city of Laika 44, where cosmonaut candidates compete for planned manned missions into space, and scientists are developing the technology to make it happen. All obviously completely secret from the rest of the world.
The story revolves around Lev Lepus, a replacement cosmonaut candidate, and his new partner, the vampire Irina Luminesque. As part of the daring new Operation Nosferatu, Project Mechtat will deploy Irina as a test subject under various conditions expected in space and ultimately as part of a manned mission with Lev overseeing Irina’s training as a cosmonaut. For personal reasons, they both share the same dream of going into space.
