On the official page for the animated adaptation of the manga, written and illustrated by the creative group CLAMP, Tokyo Babylon, which is titled Tokyo Babylon 2021A statement was released apologizing for unauthorized use of the costume design for two characters. The designs in question were featured in promotional images and character designs, so the production team has removed all previously published promotional images and videos. It was also noted that the designs will be modified.
The character designs were posted on the official website on November 19, and they reported that they had received a message the next day indicating that existing designs were being used by third parties without permission. The two designs in question belong to the characters Hokuto and Subaru Sumeragi. Hokutos (above) was highlighted as being similar to a promotional image for the South Korean group red velvet in a photo taken to promote The ReVe Festival in 2019. The Subaru design (below), in turn, has been highlighted in costumes copies of a design of a product from Volks which was released in 2017.
On the same day, the investigation confirmed that the character designs, especially the costumes, were indeed the result of plagiarism. The production team admitted that the materials review and the copyright caution were not being carried out as they should, and that the acceptance test resulted in them neglecting these aspects. The staff sincerely apologized to the rights holders and announced that they intend to form a more effective review team to prevent similar situations in the future.
After all, the series has scheduled its premiere for April 2021. Nanase Ohkawa was responsible for writing during Mokona was responsible for the art of manga which was published through the editorial Shinshokan between 1990 and 1993 with a total of seven compilation volumes.

Tokyo Babylon Synopsis
Subaru Sumeragi is a 16-year-old who, after the death of his parents, became the thirteenth leader of the most important family of onmyōjis in Japan, the Sumeragi, who served the emperor for centuries. As such, Subaru is either asked by the government to solve cases that affect the supernatural, or he encounters people in need whom he has to help with his might due to his generosity. Subaru lives in Tokyo with his twin sister Hokuto, a girl whose extroversion and eccentricity contrasts with her brother’s shy nature. Both have a neighbor and friend, Seishirō Sakurazuka, a friendly 25 year old veterinarian who claims to be in love with Subaru. Seishiro’s possible affiliation with the rival clan of the Sakurazuka, who use onmyōdō techniques to kill, is one of the main plot nodes that emerge in the chapters.
