The Japanese animation industry has grown strongly in recent years, also thanks to the distribution of entire series via the many streaming services on the market and also due to the investments of giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video in the acquisition of licenses and the consistent production of exclusive works .

This phenomenon certainly turns out effective for introducing the pillars of Japanese animation, some very out of date and otherwise difficult to find, but it also exposes productions that are considered inferior from both a creative and a productive point of view. This particular problem was addressed by Katsuhiro Takagi, President of Toei Animation, one of the most important animation studios in the entire industry.

With works like Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, and Digimon, to name a few, the Tokyo-based studio certainly doesn’t risk any revenue problems. The speech changes when it comes to it smaller studios, overwhelmed by series work, even sharply criticized by experts and enthusiasts, and who achieve results that are often far from excellence.

“I believe that the number of achievements is zero compared to the number of published works in the world. How do you make profit from animated works that are so expensive to produce? With these words, the President of Toei Animation commented on this sudden change in the industry that now seems so prefer paying attention to the quantity of productionsrather than realizing fewer but potentially unique and relevant projects in the near future.

What are your views on this? Do you prefer this particular era of the anime industry or would you like more care and passion in the creation of some works? Let us know with a comment below.
